Constellations
Interactive slideshow that teaches about the constellations and the legends about them from different cultures. There are also slides that show pictures from the Hubble Space Telescope of different stars.
Cosmonauts
My project is about Russian Cosmonauts because not very many people know about them. It is a website with biographies of famous cosmonauts like Yuri Gagarin who was the first person in space. It tells about their accomplishments like the Mir Space Station and Valeri Polakov who was on Mir for more than a year. I did a lot of research and included photographs and links to other sites.
Spaceships
Space ships from movies and what they are like compared to real ones like the space shuttle. This is a chart in Excel with all the features like cloaking devices, gravity, navigation, light speed travel and what kind of fuel they use.
Video of the Solar System
We will be making a video displaying various planets in our solar system with video footage from the Voyager Space craft and some computer generated images. The project will include a narration to accompany the video. The narration will include facts about the planets, their moons, orbital rotation, etc. The video will be shown at an assembly to the whole school.
We will gather our materials, such as any videos, books, or equipment we need, so that we may then use the information in the presentation. The materials will come from the school library and from searching on the internet.
The next step would be to copy the multimedia elements from laser disk to the iMovie program.
There are many steps in this process of taking media elements from laser disk to iMovie. In the beginning the laser disk is played on the laser disk player. The disk is to be watched to find what material will be copied. When selected elements are approved, they are copied by playing the laser disk on the same channel that a VCR can record on. The VCR will record the images and they will be stored on VHS tape. This VHS tape will then be taken to a VCR that is hooked up to a Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge. The Dazzle will also be connected to a Digital Video Camera. The VHS will play and the Digital Video camera will record the video, because the Dazzle will transfer the data from one source to the other. The Digital Video Camera will then transfer the video to the computer by the means of a fire-wire that is hooked up to the fire-wire port on the computer. The video data must be imported to the computer through iMovie.
When the previous step is completed, the laser disk footage must be edited using the iMovie software.
Next we must apply the information that we have researched in the form of a narration; this narration will be read by one of the students and recorded to accompany the presentation.
The presentation will then be edited again to achieve perfection.
Lastly the movie will be transferred to a multimedia type that will be presentable to the school, such as VHS or DVD.
Resources
Jet Propulson Laboratory
Learn about our solar system, space travel, and the technology that brings us closer to it. Site includes videos and images of planets, stars, the universe and Mars Rover updates.

Reveal the beauty and wonder of the cosmos to your students with this comprehensive listing of all of our interactive activities, graphic organizers, science content reading selections, and more.
Asteroid Impact Simulation
This simulation allows you to type in variables of an asteroid impact. How big the asteroid is, how fast it’s traveling, its impact angle, what kind of surface it hits and more. Then you can calculate the effects and find out the crater dimensions, thermal radiation and much more. Each is explained in detail.
